Try these creative methods to cut back on energy costs
With energy prices skyrocketing, small changes to your business practices can make a huge difference to your bottom line. These small business owners found creative ways to cut back on their energy costs for leaner, greener operations.
1. Encourage telecommuting
Allowing employees to work from home at least part-time will not only reduce their fuel consumption, but it could also decrease your office space needs and utility costs.
Dana Marlowe, Principal Partner of accessibility consulting firm Accessibility Partners in Washington, D.C., estimates that telework saves her business over $100,000 a year in operating costs between rent, utilities and commuting. She suggests taking it slowly if you’re unsure. “You don’t have to jump all the way in,” she says. “Try a (10-hour-a-day, 4-day week) model, or try it out just in the summer time. In addition to being green, I really think it improves employee morale and brings a very positive corporate vibe.”
